Have you ever thought what could possibly be the best way to connect to GOD?
There are many ways we can connect to GOD. I know of people who write letters to GOD and sometimes even post it. Strange, isn’t it?. I mean the posting one. But that is a question of faith. Faith is actually tested when there are reversals in our life. We may pray to Lord, but when we do not see tangible results, which we expect, then our prayers’ intensity abates. Now this shows how established our faith is.
Every theist has a particular type of inclination to connect to GOD. Some may write, some may read spiritual books, some may pray, some may talk with the Lord, and still some may do all of these and much more. But what could possibly be the best way?
Since the Lord is absolute, anything connected to the Lord is absolute. So any method we chose is perfect and absolute. Then be it prayers, meditation, or writing letters to the Lord.
But i wanted to know what the great spiritual personalities do to connect to GOD. In the book JOURNEY HOME by Radhanath Swami, he recounts how when he was a child, his friend took him to his house and he was shocked to see how they hated the Jews. Radhanath Swami is a Jew by birth. That night, Richard (the swami was called by that name before he turned into a monk) took shelter of intense prayers. He wanted to know whether GOD also hated him. Richard would often pray in bed, until he slept. The small boy of seven found great peace and shelter in such constant prayers and the monk says that prayers are the most powerful tool to feel GOD’s presence in our life and to connect to HIM.
The Swami informs us that prayers can work miracles when unpleasant situations stark at our face . It helps us to access the divine mercy of the Lord. Sometimes, we may undergo agonizing situations in life and during those periods we may fail to understand that how this is God’s blessing to us. Radhanath Swami gives us a prayer to be prayed during such tough times. It is, “Oh GOD, please give me the strength to see this situation as your mercy when my intelligence fails to see so”. This way, he explains, we can harness the hidden mercy of the Lord, and can become grateful in all situations of life which the Lord arranges.
We often think of a prayer as a tool by which we can get what we want. It is not necessary that we might always have material solutions to problems when we pray. Although it is good to turn to GOD during such times, but still it is not the best relationship coming out of selfless love. But by sincere prayers, we can slowly and slowly transcend our petty selfish pursuits. Radhanath Swami goes on to explain the best form of prayer which stunned me. He says that the best way to overcome selfishness is by offering prayers for others. Sincere prayers for the well being of others enriches our own hearts with the Lord’s loving presence, and brings deep, lasting fulfilment; it also empowers us with the spiritual strength to serve others happily. I started to understand that praying for others make us forget our own problems.
Let me know how you connect to GOD in the comments section.
